Drone Delivery Is Here

Drone delivery could be part of regular freight transportation by 2020.  Vision Profile Extrusions LTD, a manufacturing company in Vaughan, Ontario, recently teamed with Drone Delivery Canada Corp or DDC. DDC is a drone technology company focused on “the design, development and implementation of its proprietary logistics software platform using drones”.  According to ttnews.com, Drone Delivery will deploy its takeoff and landing zones as well as additional drone flight infrastructure on Vision’s company sites. It will deploy its Sparrow cargo drone, with a capacity of up to 10 pounds, on defined flight routes between Vision’s properties in Vaughan.

DDC says their new facility located in Toronto will be able to manage 1,500 delivery drones and will deliver to customers globally. According to Drone Delivery CEO, Michael Zahra, this business could result in a pleasantly foreseeable revenue. Zahra says, “On average, we anticipate charging customers a licensing fee of $10,000 per drone, per route, per month. With the high level of technical automation we have achieved with our drones, our patented Flyte system and the operation center, we will lower operating costs, resulting in a high-margin business with predictable monthly reoccurring revenue.”

DDC isn’t the only drone company in North America ready for takeoff. Flirtey Inc, another drone delivery company based out of Reno, Nevada also plans to begin deliveries by the end of 2019.  The Flirtey Eagle drone can carry more than twice the payload of its average competitors and is able to operate in 95% of weather conditions.  Flirtey says, their new drone technology combines three products that enable the goal of package delivery to customers’ homes in less than 10 minutes. Flirtey uses a similar platform and technology that is used in autonomous trucks. This special aviation automation has been approved by the Federal Aviation Administration and gives consent for one remote pilot to fly 10 drones.

With the new technology of home deliveries advancing quickly, we could see more than just airplanes and birds flying in the sky in just a few short months.
